New Green Skills Programme in Pembrokeshire

The Regional Learning and Skills Partnership has welcomed the success of the Pembrokeshire Skills Pilot, a UK Department of Energy Security and Welsh Government funded project focused on developing green and engineering skills to support unemployed and NEET individuals to gain qualifications to enable the to gain employment in the Green sector. The programme worked with partners and employers across Pembrokeshire.

The pilot delivered over 200 learner engagements, supporting those who are unemployed, upskilling in work, studying, or at risk of becoming NEET. Outcomes included 28 welding qualifications, 32 ECITB awards, 35 local employees upskilled with basic skite skills, and 30 City & Guilds Environmental Awareness qualifications, alongside 22 learners achieving ISEP sustainability certificates and becoming new ISEP associate members.  The pilot also supported a 12 week course for women in Green construction skills.

A key highlight was a 14 week Level 1 Engineering programme completed by young people from Pembrokeshire. Delivered at Pembrokeshire College with practical training at Providence Training in Neyland, the hands on course equipped learners with real world skills for the growing low carbon sector. Each participant received an engineering toolkit to support their next steps into training or employment, with learners praising the course for its practical focus and clear career pathways.
