The Regional Learning and Skills Partnership held a pivotal event that was held on the 22nd of May 2025 in Parc y Scarlets, that focused on the ambitious journey towards Net Zero and the challenges and opportunities of bringing existing homes up to new standards, as well as building the new high-quality homes of the future. Jack Sargeant MS, Minister for Culture, Skills, and Social Partnership, delivered the keynote address, highlighting the significance of this event in shaping the future of sustainable development.
During the day, industry representatives heard from key stakeholders, experts, and government representatives on how they could be involved in shaping the strategies for the future of sustainable development in South West Wales. Jonathan Morris, Chair of the RLSP Construction Group said “In order to reach the net zero target and, more importantly, capture the local economic benefits that will flow from it, we have to work in partnership. It cannot be achieved in any other way. The Regional Learning and Skills Partnership has created a space where we can have honest conversations and move forward together”
There was also an opportunity to hear about upcoming contracts and opportunities in the following 12 months. This segment offered valuable insights into future projects and collaborations.
Discussions delved into training and skills issues, identifying gaps, and available funding. The discussion explored strategies for building long-term relationships to improve workplace skills to meet Net Zero requirements and address barriers to upskilling the workforce.
The event proved to be a significant step towards achieving Net Zero and addressing the challenges of retrofit. Participants contributed valuable insights, furthering the collective efforts towards sustainable development. Jane Lewis, Regional Partnership Manager said “Event participants will be invited to join the Construction Cluster group, fostering collaboration to address and resolve key issues identified throughout the day.”.
